Irritant contact dermatitis is inflammation of the skin that appears with exposure to certain substances. Irritant contact dermatitis is also a condition of the skin that is exposed to friction or certain substances that will damage the outer layer of the skin, which can cause the skin to appear reddish and itchy and will cause a pain or stinging sensation. Irritant contact dermatitis can also occur when the skin will come into contact with irritant materials, such as acid content, liquid bleach, cleaning liquid, kerosene, and detergent.

So this irritant contact dermatitis is known by many common names such as sensitive skin, chemical rashes, prong wash hands or eczema of housewives. Well, the last two terms will refer to the exposure to soap and detergents that are more common among dishwashers and home executives. However, many of these general terms can also be used to describe related skin diseases. Another term also often used is hand contact dermatitis because irritant contact dermatitis more often affects the skin of the hands and fingers. 

Usually the symptoms of this disease depend on the cause and how sensitive the person is affected by chemicals and will cause redness. These symptoms include:
  • Burned skin with or without injury

  • Itching, burning or stinging sensation
